Frequently asked questions
How do I play?
The hunt begins at 5:00 pm on Friday February 12. If you signed up to receive a reminder, you will receive it via email or text. The entire hunt can be done with a smart phone and you have until 6:00 pm on February 14 to complete it (which is when the Levee closes) and until midnight on February 14 to submit your final solution.
The hunt will probably take 45 minutes total and can be done all in one day or broken up into segments and done anytime between Friday and Sunday February 12-14. Solutions must be submitted by midnight on Sunday; you will receive instructions for how to do that. There are no extra prizes for early submission, so you won’t have those time pressures.
The hunt leads you to several locations at Newport on the Levee. You will solve puzzles to reveal special photo op locations. You earn additional raffle entries by taking selfies at these locations and posting them on Instagram, using #NKYFindersKeepers. All the puzzle locations can be accessed without going indoors (although the Bridgeview Box Park is under a roof for the winter).
After correctly solving the first 5 puzzles, you win a tasty prize. Correctly answering the final (sixth) puzzle will open up your raffle entry form. You earn one raffle entry for solving all six puzzles and an additional entry each time you post a photo taken at the puzzle's Photo Op locations. Detailed instructions are included in the hunt.
Although the puzzles aren't extremely difficult, they do require some thought. We think you will be challenged in a fun way!
Who can play?
The puzzles are designed for couples, groups of friends or families with children of at least reading age, although younger kids can help spot some of the clues.
How much does it cost?
The hunt is free! We do welcome donations, which are tax deductible and go to support NKY ArtQuest, a regional calendar of arts-related events and NKY Art Tours, free, self-guided tours of history and public art in NKY.
Where is the scavenger hunt held?
All the clue locations are at Newport on the Levee, 1 Levee Way, Newport, KY. The web-based hunt includes detailed information for each puzzle location. Paid parking is available in the garage under the Levee and there is usually free street parking on nearby Monmouth Street.
When can I play?
The hunt will be live starting at 5:00 pm on Friday February 12 through 6:00 pm on Sunday February 14. You need to submit your solution (instructions will be provided) by midnight on Sunday February 14. In between those times, you can visit the clue locations and work on the puzzles whenever you wish. All the locations can be accessed without going indoors. There are no prizes for finishing early, so you have two full days to play, with no rushing necessary!
What do I need to bring?
You will need a smart phone with a web browser, camera and texting capability--and your brains!
What do donations support?
Donations made by generous players support the Catalytic Fund’s public art initiatives, including NKY Art Tours and NKY ArtQuest. These initiatives are free for everyone and help to promote the arts in Northern Kentucky. Thank you in advance for your support!
What can I win?
After correctly solving the first five puzzles, you will win a tasty treat from Little Spoon Bakery & Cafe. The raffle prizes include gift certificates from Levee businesses Kon Tiki, Leaf and Limb and Little Spoon Bakery & Cafe.
Winners are chosen by raffle from the players who submit the correct solutions by the deadline. The raffle will be held during the week of February 15, with winners notified via email and posted on our webpage.
What are the safety precautions being taken?
To make it easy to stay safe and healthy during the hunt, we are taking the following precautions:
All clue locations and photo challenges can be accessed without going indoors, although the Bridgeview Box Park vendors are under a roof for the winter.
Each puzzle will not take a long time to solve, so if there are too many people at a certain location, you should be able to wait until those folks have moved on.
We are grateful to all participants for following current recommended safety guidelines about masks, groups sizes and social distancing.
